In Dalton Trumbo’s novel, Johnny Got His Gun, Trumbo shows a loving relationship between a young man and his father. This novel takes place in the woods at a campsite. This is a place where the young man and his father have bonded for many years. Trumbo portrays a deep relationship between the father and son with a simple exchange. Trumbo portrays the importance of the fishing tradition with detail, point of view, and imagery. Trumbo also reveals to the reader the son’s careful consideration of the “ending and beginning”. This proves that their relationship is one of mutual love and respect.The opening paragraph instantly sets the tone as serene yet important. The beautiful details of the campsite are carefully constructed. They give a sense of familiarity with the setting. The boy is clearly aware of his surroundings and is very fond of the tradition. The details portraying
