Andrew Hubbard IR Research Proposal Over the last two decades China has seen huge economic growth. In a short period of time China has risen to the world’s second largest economy right below the United States. The political leaders in Beijing claim that it has been through continues use of a “peaceful rise” the China has been able to do so well. Nations around the world wonder if China’s “peaceful rise” will stay that way as the country continues to gain power. The research paper will seek to examine why China’s rise toward a world superpower will not be peaceful. The paper will explore the threat to the US and Japanese power in Asia, China’s growing military power, and the issue of Taiwan. While China currently is pursuing a “peaceful rise” there is no guarantee that it will remain that way. The rise of China makes neighboring nations in Asia, such as Japan, and the United States uncomfortable. China’s rise makes America uneasy for a few reasons.
