Outline for Africa-American Religious Traditions Midterm October 13, 2006 I. Evelyn Brooks Higginbothom, the author of “Righteous Discontent,” illustrates the Women’s Movement in the Black Baptist Church. She presents ‘The Black Female Talented Tenth’ as being faced with multiple conflicts, endeavors, and accomplishments. However, it is through the dilemmas that their strength and intelligence is observed. The Black Female Talented Tenth lived and strived for equality, however, the only way that these women could overcome the obstacles of race, gender, and class discrimination was through strategizing. II. The Black Female Talented Tenth proved to strategize first in their church. The church was so much more than a meeting place for worship. To women of the church, it was a place to organize their ideas and build an identity for themselves. The women’s convention movement was a way for them to express their discontent with the many forms of discrimination that they faced and demanded equal rights for black
