Enduring Relationships I. Characteristics A. Variability – Seeing the person in many different states/situations. When you see them in lots of situations you know them better. B. Duration – How long you see someone on average. Long distance relationships have long duration but low frequency. C. Frequency - You can see someone all day but for minutes so you have lots of frequency and for a short duration. Need both D. Revelation – You let the other person know things that you wouldn’t tell most people. E. Meshing – Everything works great together. When you talk or communicate everything goes smoothly. F. Mutually Interdependent – You need each other. Can’t imagine how you would live without your other person. G. Anxiety Reduction (security) – Feel safe with them. H. Proximity – They aren’t around and you want them to be around. I. Relationships are Systemic – One thing can have impact on the relationship. You can’t fix one person without fixing someone else (couple).
