Break Ups I. Stages of Breaking Up A. Denial & Disillusionment – When you claim that you are happy when you aren’t and when you are alone you are cynical. Denying anything is wrong initially. B. Erosion & Anger – as a relationship ends it starts to wear away at you. At this stage you will fight about anything. Feel warn away. C. Bargaining – when you start agreeing to do something. Everything is negotiable. D. Detachment – “The worst stage”. You belong in the relationship but you aren’t part of the relationship. E. Separation 1. Preknowledge – People know when they are breaking up. 2. Mutual vs. Single – when both people agree that they should split up…they are both happier when they both agree that they should break up 3. Gender – Girls are the ones who decide its over versus boys. F. Attempted Recovery G. Mourning – Sad stage. People feel lousy… H. Restructuring – start setting your life up so you don’t have the other person in your life. Start a hobby…move…change something in your life after that.
