Effective Communication with Diverse AudiencesThe 2014 movieThe Theory of Everythingdepicts a young man studying cosmology and physicsat Cambridge in the 1960s. This young man, Stephen Hawking, was diagnosed with amyotrophiclateral sclerosis (ALS) at the young age of 21 and was told that he only had two years to live. Hegoes on to fall in love with a young art student named Jane Wilde, who would later become hiswife and the mother of his children. Stephen Hawking became known as the successor toEinstein and lives a long life due to the help of advancing medical equipment.As Stephen Hawking’s ALS progressed, his muscles became increasingly weak. His ability tospeak quickly disappeared so, he had no way of communicating with anyone once his voice wasgone and his muscles became too weak to write down what he wanted to say to people.
