2Journal ReflectionIn sociology, sex is defined as the biological differences between males and females toinclude the differences in genetics and genitalia. Gender refers to the societal roles of males andfemales, also referred to as gender roles, gender identity, and the individual concept of oneself.In modern society, sex and gender are thought of as a starting point. Society views sexand gender as something that can be changed from what a person was assigned at birth, alteringspecifically the male or female genitalia into the genitalia of the sex they desire to be.
