HIPAA is important to patients because it ensures that the health care providers, health careplans, and businesses associated with HIPAA covered entities are implementing many safeguardsto protect the sensitive health and personal information. HIPAA also ensures that a patient’spersonal health information is not given to anyone without the patient’s knowledge andpermission.
