“The media have focused heavily on the factors that divide rather than those that unite racial groups.” - William Julius Wilson In America, there is a division among people. Whether people are united through the fact that they’re all American, claim the same religion, or all live in the same place, yet there is still a divide. And while this divide is not clearly visible, such as a concrete wall would be, it has the same effects as this metaphorical wall. This divide is attributed the differences people see in each other due to race. In an effort to deal with the racial conflict in America, racial models were created. (Yancey) Out of the four models, the concept of Anglo-conformity will be discussed throughout this paper. It will be defined and analyzed in retrospect to its strengths and weaknesses, as well as applied to various social problems. The application of the model will voice how these problems are to be remedied. There are several ways of dealing with racial conflict through the various models. One is to simply ignore it in a way, to unite people through this and concentrate more on social problems, as is exemplified by the Colorblindness Model. Similarly, the Multiculturalism model emphasizes value of the differences of people of minority, uniting everyone based on this positive difference, instead of ignoring it. The White Responsibility model places ‘blame’ on the dominant white race for minority short-comings. The Anglo-Conformity model is different from other models. As Rist states in his article, “the notion of Anglo conformity has been the most prevailing and powerful perspective on majority- minority relations during the course of the

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
