Scott Keane Mr. Splawn 5/7/2009 Red-Sox vs. Yankees Its here, Opening Day! Major League Baseball officially got underway this morning around 5 a.m. Going into the 2008 baseball season, I’d put me money on the Boston Red-Sox to repeat as world champions. In comparison with the New York Yankees, Boston strength might just be their pitching. While the Yankees are arguably the best team and Americas team, I suspect the role is changing. Granted the Yankees will be in the playoffs just about every year, I just don’t see them having what it takes this next season to take the Red-Sox in the playoffs. Now let’s compare the two teams in further detail. The Red-Sox are going in to this season with the world title to defend. My hopes and thoughts are that they will be able to do so with their past playoff experience. With a 120 million dollar payroll and the majority of the players coming back, from last seasons world series title run, for 2008 the Red Sox are going into the season with one of the best 1, 2 combos in the game. The starting rotation begins with 28 year-old right handed pitching wizard Josh Beckett who is right up there among the best pitchers in the post- season. The Red Sox have all the confidence in the world when he is pitching, "He's the man. He's the man in the playoffs. That's why he's our No. 1 starter. We've got a lot of confidence in him.”(Ramirez) I’d ask anyone, why wouldn’t you be confident? He throws 98mph with great off speed to the hitters off balance at all times, so its only fitting that he
