Randall Paliwoda Professor Michelle Jolly History 251 3/17/08 When the history of colonial America was written, historians focused on the main men who constructed the Constitution and shaped the government to be what it is today. What the historians forgot to include was all of the little people that helped. People like Native Americans, women, slaves, and poor free men. All of these people played a vital role in shaping the country and should be credited for it. Native Americans taught the new European settlers how to live in a new environment, slaves made slave owners substantial amounts of money, women helped run businesses and poor, free men fought in the war to gain their independence. Although Native Americans were almost wiped out when the Europeans came to settle the world, they played an important role in colonial America. When the Europeans first got to what is now America, they did not know anything about this new land. They relied on the people that had already inhabited it to show them what was good and what was bad about this new land.
