Laurel Bale Due: 3/24/08 Related Article #2 The article “How Baby’s Hand Skills Develop” was written by Casey Sangmeister and was published in February 2005 in an issue of American Baby Magazine. In the article Sangmeister discusses the importance of hand skills and how they develop in infants. Much of the information that is talked about in this article can directly relate to what we have learned in chapter eight. For example she talks about the different actions that will develop such as grasping, reaching, and pointing. Sangmeister also discusses when these actions are expected to emerge Throughout the article it is explained that practicing hand skills advances an infant’s hand-eye coordination and will also help teach the baby cause and effect. During the first year the baby goes through several different stages which is highlighted in the article as well as on page 137 in our text book. For example, developmental grasping progressing shows that a twenty week old baby will only make contact when reaching for an object but by week thirty two the
