Creative World Literature 320 Through out the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl , there are many people who try to show themselves to be a certain way, only to be later revealed as imposters. These imposters are to be known as alazons, and are wordly fools driven by greed and often money. The first of the alazons to be revealed as such is Captain Hector Barbosa. Barbosa is, above all else, a pirate. As he is a pirate there is no surprise that he is driven by the thirst of gold and riches. However, it is when his search for gold backfires on him that he is forced to become an alazon of a different nature. The scene which Barbosa and Elizabeth have dinner is Barbosa’s revealing as the alazon that he really is. In this scene he explains how him and his crew spent and traded a treasure chest full of gold, only to discover later that the gold is cursed. Barbosa and his crew then reveal themselves in the
