Rodrigo Navarrete January 27, 2008 Workload English Cunningham Diagnostic Exam Claiming what is Rightfully Yours In her address to the audience at Douglass College, Adrienne Rich boldly asserts that students need to do more than just accept their education as it is presented to them. Students must quit wandering around on the green lawn of education and choose to break open the doors of academic freedom and grasp their futures in their own hands. It is not worth it to take what is given to you at face value; one has the responsibility to him/herself to dig deeper and explore the trenches of education in order to claim what is rightfully theirs. We’re not paying for our education for no reason. In other words, we have to milk the cow daily if we’ve already bought it. Most students that I have observed don’t do their daily milking. They often grab their books, go to class, pay attention to lecture and take great notes, and then proceed to go home only to repeat the exact same process the next day.
