ITALYItaly is located in Southern Europe, it is a peninsula that takes the shape of a “boot”, and extends into the central Mediterranean Sea. Its official name is the Italian Republic and its legal system is based on the constitution of 1948, it has a republic type of government and its capital is Rome. (The World Fact Book). A weak political structure is what characterizes post-war Italy, but it has a strong economic base that has been recently declining. Italy has the world’s sixth largest economy. Most of Italy is mountainous and has many hills and is forested in some parts, the country is known for its great scenic beauty and famous sites.In 1861, Italy became a nation-state under King Victor Emmanuel II as well as Sardinia and Sicily which border Italy. It was an era of a parliamentary government which came to a finish in the 1920’s by Benito Mussolini who brought in a Fascist dictatorship. Mussolini had an alliance with the Nazi Germany which led to their defeat in World War II.(Factsheet). In 1946, Italy replaced the monarchy with a democratic republic and had a revival in their economy right after. Italy was a charter member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and of the European Economic Community (EEC). The head of government is Silvio Berlusconi which is the prime minister and is also referred to as the President of the Council of Ministers cabinet. The head of state at this time is Giorgio Napolitano also known as the President. Italy is facing a major challenge because their economy is falling apart and has to limit the impact of the global financial crisis as well as keep their public finances under control.The globalization policy in Italy can be described as a mixture of constructivism and liberalism but it leans towards constructivism. Liberalism is when they believe humans can change and become better. They believe human nature can be improved and progress is the

Constructivism on the other hand is similar to liberalism but looks at both the positive and negative. In constructivism, human agency makes and remakes the social world. Constructivism focuses on choices and how humans change through identities. It also argues that they have choices and depending on which choice they make depends on the outcome. Liberalism on the globalization point is that the fact that there is less disease and more trade in countries today: means those countries are better off with trade. People are living longer and even if they engage in unfair trade they are still better off than they were before. In Italy they definitely engage in trade they import and
