Tamara Momplaisir Week 1 Assignment As psychologists, you are faced with a very difficult position that not all people could commit to doing. This includes me. On a daily basis, you are faced with being exposed to other people’s innermost demons. Typically, a psychologist interacts with their patient at their most vulnerable time. As a child, I always wanted to be a psychologist so that I could be in a position to help others. But now as I am older, I see that as one of the most difficult positions and no longer can see myself doing this job ethically. Breaching confidentiality would be my biggest issue. In instances where I felt it was necessary to breach confidentiality, whether legal or not, I would do so without the slightest hesitation. For instance, if someone I knew had an issue that they needed to see a psychologist for and came to me seeking that professional help, I don’t know that I would be able to turn them away. From an ethical stand point this may prove to be ethically incorrect. The main concern I see is this may pose to be a conflict of interest as it may be difficult to distinguish my personal relationship from my professional relationship with my client. Lastly, the third ethical dilemma I can foresee is maybe in the event of being hired to provide expert testimony. In those instances, a psychologist is typically at the mercy of whoever hired them and maybe backed into providing testimony based on unfounded information....
