QUESTION 1 :  Describe the kinds of big data collected by the organizations described in this case Answer: 1. Sears:  It has customer databases up to 60 million which is the most by any company in United States after Boeing Corporation. It has the data of all its customers and in a survey sears is known for the company holding big data more effectively. In 2011 Sears launched a new program called rewards loyalty program which enables them to collect 100% data of the customers. It started to invest in new technologies and invested a lot in cloud and other technologies. It turned on to a new technology known as Apache Hadoop technology which can run on any plat form. Using this all the processing of any item can be done in a week. 2. AutoZone: It uses big data to adjust their inventory across their stores. Any person couldn’t find his/her desired product can be found in all the other stores of the company. It has the database of the cars which are driven by the people surrounding their store. 3. Green Mountain Coffee in Waterbury, Vermont: Has the data for the behavior of their customers in structured and unstructured way. It has 20 buying patterns with 200 and more clients. It uses calibrio speech analytics to get the interactions from multiple channels. By analyzing big data, this company is now able to produce more quality materials than before according to the customers feedback. QUESTION 2 :  List and describe the business intelligence technologies described in this case. Answer:  Real-Time Analytics for Inventory Management: by implementing Hadoop and into a traditional environment are the technologies used by Sears.

With this Business Intelligence teams are able to provide more accurate and real- time inventory, pricing, sales and return data as well as predicting ideal floor plans. Green Mountain Coffee, Vermont uses calibrio analytics to glean insights from multiple  interaction channels and data streams. With this technology, they can analyze data and  get feedback from customers and now they are able to deliver more reliable products. AutoZone is using a Software called NuoDB to maintain their inventories across all their  stores. QUESTION 3 :  Why did the companies described in this case need to maintain and analyze big data?  What business benefits did they obtain? How much they were analyzed using big data? Answer: I think  Sears  needed to maintain and analyze big data because previously they have seen a hug  loss for not maintaining the data properly. As sears cost structure is very high, they must maintain this big data in order to overcome several issues they faced. It almost faced a loss of $1.4 billion in 2013.
