Psych 5/7/2009 Children are active in their own development: Piaget Development proceeds in multipile domains: Kohlberg (moral reasoning) Piagetian theory Contructivism vs. learning theory o Contructivism Cognitive – developmental theories (such as piaget) as construtivist theories Development takes place in tages Strickt definition of states: stages are hierarchiacal, universal and invariant. Cognitive is central to all others behavior. Friendships depend on what stage that you are in. \ o Learning theory Schemas Schema’s are the smallest building blocks of understanding. Can be emotions, sound, feeling, things like that. Equilibration o Match between schemas and morals. o Assimilation This is play for a child. o Accommodation. Change scemas to match the external mold. Once there is enough of a miss match for accommodation, this is when kids will change stages. Know piaget’s stages of cognitive development, know all 4 of them.
