Indian Civil Service - ICS, originated as elite civil service of Indian Government under British rule in India, and continues in the contemporary Civil Services of India, though these are now organized differently. David Livingstone - Scottish pioneer, medical missionary with the London Missionary Society, explorer in central Africa. He was the first European to see (Victoria Falls), he gave it English name in honor of Queen Victoria. Name and short history of one ex-British colony - Malaysia, European domination led to the Anglo-Dutch treaty of 1824, which drew a frontier between British Malaya and the Netherlands East Indies, which became Indonesia. This arbitrary division of the Malay world has proved permanent. Joseph Conrad - Polish-born English novelist. One of the greatest English novelists. His works; romanticism, but more importantly he is recognized as an important forerunner of modernist literature. Rudyard Kipling - English author and poet, and best known for his works The Jungle Book. He is regarded as a major "innovator in the art of the short story."
