Exam 2 Study Guide 03/12/2013 ° Trust, Justice, Ethics Affect-Based Trust : feelings Cognition-Based Trust : Data-based trust storing data as time goes on and going off of that as to why you trust the person o Rational assessment o Judged on competence, character, benevolence Disposition-based Trust : born with it, genetics and environment o General propensity to trust others Procedural justice : “how did I get there” – processes o Perceived fairness of decision-making processes o Fostered when authorities adhere to rules of fair process o Voice, correctability, consistency, bias suppression, representativeness and accuracy Distributive Justice : “what I get” – outcomes o Asks about: pay, rewards, evaluations, promotions, and work assignments Ethics: norms How Important is Trust? o Trust relates to performance because it increases an employees ability to focus Informational Justice : reflects the perceived fairness of the communications provided to employees from authorities.
