ISS 315 Assignment 1 January 22 nd , 2008 The three countries I used were Sweden, Croatia, and the Philippines. Sweden was the country in the top third of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) with a score of 9.4 and an accompanying crime rate of 13,836.67 per 100,000 citizens. Croatia was in the middle of the scale with a CPI score of 4.1 and a crime rate of 2,281.14 per 100,000 citizens. The Philippines were in the bottom third of the scale with a CPI score of 2.5 and a crime rate of 107.3 per 100,000 citizens. The CPI scores and crime rates in each of the countries is quite different than the others. Sweden has the highest crime rate by far while the crime rate in the Philippines is the lowest. Croatia’s crime rate falls in between the two countries. At first look, it may appear that Sweden is the most dangerous country of the three due to having the highest crime rate by far. However, there may be many differences in the way the crimes are recorded in each country causing the crime rates to
