ISS315 Assignment 22-26-08The four countries I chose were the United States (common law), Iran (Islamic law), France (civil law), and China (socialist law). They represent all four of the major types of criminal justice systems. As expected, the countries have some differences in the area of substantive law. However, they also have areas of substantive law that are similar. Each country has a constitution and a set of laws that define crimes by their seriousness and what constitutes each one. The difference is what the constitution and laws are based of off. Iran’s constitution specifically states that the country’s laws are guided by divine revelation. Specifically, the Koran and the Sunna are the basis for the country’s substantive law, but in China, substantive law is based on the main principles of socialism, such as Marxism, Leninism, and Mao Zedong thought.
