Wanted to be treated as equals- Encomienda and economic exploitation o Spanish peasants had also monopolized best lands and water sources by late 1600s- Disease: Pueblo population dropped from 80,000 in 1600 to 17,000 in 1680 o Saw as punishment for accepting Christianity...
