Reliable and Sustainable Power Supply for San Francisco http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/prnewswire/NYW07626092007-1.html This article is about the innovative new electrical power system that is going to be installed underneath the San Francisco Bay called the Trans Bay Cable. It is a 53 mile long underwater high voltage direct current (HVDC) link that will connect San Francisco’s power grid to the PG&E substation in Pittsburg, California. It is going to be constructed by Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution Inc starting later this year and should hopefully be finished by 2010. The innovative feature of this new electrical power system is that it is the premier of Siemens’ HVDC PLUS technology. Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution Inc. was awarded the contract to build the 53 mile long link between substations in San Francisco and Pittsburg, CA which is worth an estimated 150 million dollars. Siemens will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, installing, and commissioning the entire project while making sure that it
