Candle Snuffer Shaun Greenhalgh and Doug Peters were grouped together for the Candle Snuffer Project summarized below. The process and results recorded by the group are explained in the following paragraphs of this report. Problem Faced The assigned task for the Candle Snuffer Project was to put out a candle of the birthday cake variety from a distance of fifteen feet. However, the group could not touch or alter the device once it is remotely triggered. Therefore the group was faced with the challenge of designing a machine that will do it by itself. However, there were some rules. The group could not use any of the following: ramps, balls, liquids, or explosives. The first step was to hit the drawing board. Design Process The group decided to solve the problem at hand by creating a vehicle that will travel over the candle and snuff it out. The next step involved designing a vehicle that will travel the distance needed to put out the candle. The first design was a propulsion vehicle powered by a single mousetrap. After several tests the group decided to alter the design to a three mousetrap system to create the force needed to travel the fifteen feet. This design proved effective and was implemented on our
