Chapter 1- Global Warming and Climate Change --The last million years has been a succession of major ice ages interspersed with warmer periods. The last of these ice ages began to come to an end about 20,00 years ago and we are now in what is called an interglacial period. --Climate- a regions average weather over a period of months, a season, or a few years. --Most of the worst disasters in the world are, in fact, weather or climate related. Ex. Hurricanes, wind-storms, floods, tornadoes, and droughts. --The 1980’s and 1990s were unusually warm. Globally speaking, the devades have been the warmest since accurate records began somewhat over a hundred years ago and these unusually warm years are continuing into the 21 st century. 9 warmest years in the instrumental record have occurred since 1990. --This period also remarkable for the frequency and intensity of extremes in weather and climate. --Insurance industry has been hit hard by recent disasters. Hurricane Andrew-21 billion dollars and economic losses of 37 Billion dollars. El Nino
