Exam II Review Key Terms from chapter 3-7 vocabulary: Federalism: A way of organizing a notion so that two levels of government have formal authority over the same between units of government; compare unitary government. Civil Liberty: The legal constitutional protections against government. Although our civil liberties are formally set down in the Bill of Rights, the courts, polices, and legislatures define their meaning. Civil Rights: Policies designed to protect people against arbitrary or discriminatory treatment by government officials or individuals. Public Opinion: The distribution of the population’s belief about politics and policy issues. Mass Media: Television, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines, and other means of popular communication. They are a key part of high-tech politics. Broadcast Media and Print Media. Political Parties: according to Anthony downs, a “team of men [and women] seeking to control the governing apparatus by gaining office in a duly constituted election.” Chapter 3 Vocabulary
