Govignon 1 Andre Govignon Mrs. Viola English 1 Honors 10 December 2020 Deception inMuch Ado About Nothing In the play,Much Ado About Nothing,the genre of comedy and romance play a crucial role throughout the play.This play is all about love, but more importantly, deception which is done through skilled writing and sometimes even comedy.Throughout the play, deception is utilized masterfully to either prevent love from happening or bring two people together.InMuch Ado About Nothing,the main characters use deception to bring Beatrice and Benedick, who have previously despised each other, together; furthermore, Don John uses deception to prevent the marriage of Claudio and Hero.Throughout the story, Don John and his men have managed to create chaos and confusion through lies and deception.In the next couple of paragraphs, one will see how deception is used in good and evil ways, and how it actually drives the plot along. To start, throughout the play, deception is seen to have good purposes.This is clear when the protagonists use deception to trick Beatrice and Benedick into loving each other.For instance, in the play Claudio, Leonato, and Don Pedro talk about how Beatrice loves Benedick and is scared to ask him.They claim she might commit suicide over Benedick if he makes fun of her when she confesses her love.Nearby, Bendick listens to the conversation not knowing they are doing this on purpose.By utilizing deception, they are able to get Benedick to love Beatrice.
