Although there are some genetic causes of childhood obesity, in most cases excessive weight gain is due to overeating and under exercising. Children require extra calories to improve their growth and development; if they take in the appropriate amount of calories, they should be able to add pounds in proportion to their growth. But if they consume more calories than they are burning off, they result will be weight gain. Childhood obesity is almost always a result of many factors working together to increase the risk and unhealthy health conditions. Some of the factors that causes childhood obesity is diet, lack of physical activity, psychological factors, and sleep. Children eating unhealthy lunch and high calories foods like some fast food, cookies, soda, candy, other baked good, chips, and vending machine snacks, which also contribute to weight gain.
