Card #1 Governer Smith: The people need to be educated and aware of the issues existing in their regions. This includes addressing the problems and being totally honest about existing and proposed solutions—their positives, negatives, and possible costs and increased taxes to fix these problems. Currently, the problems are as follows: -Water quality is a major problem concerning the Great Lakes and NY region. Water quality is defined as the amount of dissolved oxygen, nitrogen, and pH in water, among other things. -Industrialization contributes to harmful compounds in the air that cause global warming, such as excess carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons. Both the compounds released and global warming can heat up waters to temperatures not suitable for normal species environments. -While we all know the benefits of agricultural production, it can also be harmful in close proximity to the Great Lakes. If excessive nutrients are used, they can be deposited in groundwater, aquifers, and reservoirs
