Emphasis is placed on learningbasic anatomical terms, the structure and function of cells and tissues, integumentary, skeletal,and muscular and nervous systems. Laboratory experiences include experimental labs whichreinforce contemporary scientific concepts and laboratory exercises that closely correlate to thelecture topics.Textbook and Course Material:• Textbook: Principles of Anatomy & Physiology. 15thedition. Tortora, G. & Derrickson,B. Wiley• Power Point lecture notes will be provided in the Content Area of Blackboard• Selected Laboratory Kits from Carolina Biological• Selected laboratory exercises found in the Laboratory Manual for Anatomy & Physiology isfound in the Blackboard Content Area and is free of charge to students.• Goggles (as specified in the Student Lab Safety Guidelines) ---NOT SAFETYGLASSES---(shouldbeincluded in Carolina Biological Kit)• Lab Coat or Apron—(should be included in Carolina Biological Kit)Prerequisites:High School Chemistry or CH 101 and High School Biology or BI 101 and EN060
2EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENTExams/Quizzes:Exams/quizzes are important components of this course and will be taken online.An examination will only be available after the completion of each Unit.Tests and quizzes will be timed and must be completed in one sitting.The are no make-up tests without acceptable/approved documents (i.e., doctor’s note,accident report, excused absence).Work and vacations are not exceptions/excuses.If you miss an examination for a non-trivial reason (at my discretion), you will makeup that examination during the final examination session and no additional time will begiven.If you miss a second examination, the grade for that exam will be an automaticzero (a makeup will be given for one exam only).Quizzes that are completed and submitted after the due date will incur a 20% penalty.
