CURRENT EVENT AND U.S DIPLOMACY 2 The term “doctrine” means “A statement of official government policy, especially in foreign affairs and military strategy” (“Doctrine”, n.d.) A presidential doctrine is a document that comprises of the goals and attitudes for the United States foreign affairs. The document on the most part is outlined by the president of the United States. Despite the fact that most of the doctrines that were made by the presidents are related to the cold war, they also had an influence on their foreign policies. The end of the Second World War in 1945 came along with many responsibilities for the United States. It was because the country was now classified as one of the most powerful and undoubtedly was the world superpower. The United States economy was stronger than that of the western countries and the Asian countries. It’s contributed to the fact that the United States decided to stay away from war until they were. While as the Reagan Doctrine was the foreign strategy in the United States, enacted by President Ronald Reagan. This doctrine was planning to eradicate the collectivist governments in Africa, Asia, and Latin America that were permitted and authenticated by the Soviet Unification. Attacked at the Pearl Harbor by the Japanese mercenaries (Urwin, 2014). Reagan Doctrine is also as a “strategy orchestrated and implemented by the United States under the Reagan Administration to oppose the global influence of the Soviet Union during the final years of the Cold War. Although this doctrine lasted less than a decade, it was highlighted Policy from the early 1980s of United States till the end of the Cold War in 1991” (“Reagan Doctrine”, n.d.). Therefore, Reagan Doctrine is important for U.S. politics and U.S. foreign policy as it is huge. Further, another importance of Reagon doctrine is it served as the foundation to support Regan Administration's support "freedom fighter” all over the world.
