MY STRATEGY FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS2My Strategy for College SuccessI have always been a good student.Throughout my years in elementary and secondary school Ipaid attention and earned respectable grades, but more significantly I always enjoyed learning.Whencircumstances led to me discontinuing my post-secondary education, I didn’t realize how much I wouldmiss the educational environment, including the structure and schedules.Over the years I haveexpressed a number of times how I’d like to go back to school, and would if a feasible opportunity arose;so when the chance to continue my education at an affordable cost presented itself last year, I embracedit.I am excited to be returning to school at this point in my life, 23 years after I left college.Career GoalsUnknowingly, my career goals took shape when I took a typing course in high school andprogressed quickly to the top of my class, even winning typing competitions and tutoring other students. My typing skills earned me a summer job before my last year of high school as a secretary at the Ministryof Education. There I discovered that I loved administrative work as it gave me an opportunity to developorganizational skills I hadn’t learned elsewhere.I took pride in preparing documents which were wellwritten and formatted, and in creating templates management would distribute for company-wide use.Ienjoyed being part of a team and supporting management in making their jobs run more smoothly andeasily.Still, as much as I enjoyed the job, at that point I continued to think of it as a temporary position, certainly not a possible career.
