Caudill 1 Iran and Hezbollah are just two of many common terms that have many think are new vocabulary following today’s politics of te rr or is m in a post 9/11 world. However, over two decades ago, such names were commonplace before and after the Pan Am Flight 103 Bombing Incident of 1988. It is imperative America understands the failure in intelligence, its links to to da y’ s te r rorism threat, conspiracy theories, and an evaluation of how to protect America in order to create a safer, more secure nation (Cox 39). Below is one of many connections of Pan Am flight 103 and 9/11 attacks that are cited by authors who have been responsible for relaying the details of terrorism on America: ―W he n we su bm it te d th e ma nu sc ri pt fo r [ The Price of Terror ], the awful events of September 11, 2001, were still in the future. When the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing took place on December 21, 1998, it was the deadliest attack of all time on American civilians. Technically speaking, the Boeing 747 was American territory carrying 259 people to John F. Kennedy airport in New York. Many would place the first significant terror attack on American even earlier in 1983, when a suicide trucker- bomber entered a building at an airport near a Marine Corps barracks in Lebanon. Caudill 2 241 soldiers, whom were on a mission for a peace deal. This incident did not spark any significant military response. After three years to confirm Lebanon was indeed involved with the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing, military action was still not taken(Wallis 143). However, the United Nations, with the wholehearted support of America and Britain, imposed the most severe sanctions on Libya: both incoming and outgoing commercial airline traffic would stop and any country that did business with Libya could not do business with any United Nations member – particularly the United States. The sanctions were begun on the basis that an international investigation must be conducted to find out whether Libya was truly involved in the Pan Am flight bombing. Two of the key suspects were identified as Lemen Khalifa Fhimah and Abdul Basser Ali al-Megrahi (Davies 202). Bo
