St. Joseph’s College School of Professional & Graduate Studies Online Course – Summer 2015 BUS 100 Process of Management D’adra Crump, 718-940-5869 [email protected] Course Description: An introduction to the business decision-making process through the study of theory and practice of management. The manager's tasks - planning, organizing, directing and controlling - are reviewed through reading and case studies. The student is introduced to the concept of strategic planning, and in line with today's emphasis on productivity, particular attention is paid to human resources and motivation. Learn the theories and principles of disciplines relevant to managerial development Comprehend the relationship between human behavior and organizational effectiveness Apply relevant theories and practices to specific organizational management situations with the aim of promoting organizational effectiveness Acquire knowledge of HR practices as they pertain to such areas as equal employment opportunity, training, evaluation, compensation, motivation, legal/regulatory requirements, and employer/employee relations Understand and respond to the challenge of multiculturalism in the world of work and the external environment Understand and develop the managerial abilities of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling Exhibit proficiency in written and oral communication at a level appropriate to a professional setting Develop information literacy including the application of technological competence in locating, evaluating, and using information related to research topics and in the preparation of a literature review- in support of your lifelong learning.
