The Major Characteristics of a Unitary Constitution Of the three analyzed constitutions (unitary, federal, and confederation), the unitary is that type of political system that is characterized by the central or national government having predominant political power. A unitary constitution provides that the most significant legislation and policies be designed at the national or central level of government. An emphasis is placed on centralization and centralized planning. 2. Comparative Global Examples of Unitary Constitutions The global cases of Great Britain, France, Italy, Israel, and Japan will be discussed. 3. Unitary Constitutions and Third World Countries Furthermore, critical analysis of the special case of Southern Hemisphere countries and their natural affinity to unitary constitutions will be articulated. 4. The Major Characteristics of a Confederation Of the three analyzed constitutions (unitary, federal, and confederation), the confederation is that type of political system that is characterized by the regional, state, or local governments having predominant political power. A confederation constitution provides the most significant legislation and policies are designed at the either the regional, state, or local level of government. An emphasis is placed on decentralization and decentralized planning. 5.
