Lecture XI – Interpreting the Law Introduction o Old Testament believers were saved by grace just like us. Habbakkuk 2:4 Abraham o Nomos- Greek word for Law Torah Old Testament Mishnah 10 commandments o Jesus never broke or disagreed with any laws from the Torah He disagreed with certain teachings of the Mishnah/Talmud o George Ladd, I Believe in the Resurrection Fasting o Leviticus 16:29, Luke 18:12 o Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur Every Jew would fast on this day once a year o Pharisees Would fast every Monday and Thursday Took pride in their fasts o Jesus Disagreed with fasting every Monday and Thursday Parable of the wedding feast Sabbath – Mark 2:22-28 o Many Sabbath “laws” arose before Jesus’ day
