Chen 1 Plastic Surgery for the Wrong Reasons Plastic surgery is known as the easy way to adjust a person’s appearance. There are so many possibilities with plastic surgery, and people can change anything they want to on their body. Adolescents have taken plastic surgery to a whole new level by trying to look like their favorite celebrities. Over the years plastic surgery has changed drastically. Adolescents have been getting surgeries on their faces mostly due to self esteem problems. Adolescents forget the risks that may occur after surgery, and all they think about is how they would look better than before. There can be severe consequences from the surgery that will harm the person’s body. Adolescents are getting plastic surgery as graduation presents from their parents, but most adolescent are not mature enough to be able to go through the emotions of plastic surgery, therefore, plastic surgery should be prohibited among young adults until at least the age of twenty one. Plastic surgery is not only dangerous but costly as well. Plastic surgery was first introduced to people during World War I. There were thousands of soldiers who were injured and millions more who were deformed, disabled, and needed serious surgical treatment. During the war, surgeons had to see patients who had severe facial burns, shattered jaws, and noses that were shot off. From all these severe injuries to the patients it was new to many of the doctors. Plastic surgery was needed to fix the burn areas and other places on the face. Due to medical technology advances, doctors made improvement in technology, anesthesia techniques, and better reflected lights. With all those new improvements it helped plastic surgery be more successful with fewer deaths (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).
