Unit:5 Debate Topic Group Discussion When it comes to parental responsibility, I must emphatically support the concept that parents are very much responsible for their children’s personality formation and subsequent behavior. However, the subsequent behavior responsibility must be evaluated with the knowledge and understanding that there is a point in child development where the parent’s influence is far exceeded by the young adolescence's peers. Albert Bandura felt strongly that if parents taught their children the valuable skill of self-efficacy, then it would give the child a better sense of confidence that can last a lifetime. Parents are the child’s primary role models for many years through adolescence, which subsequently gives parents the responsibility to create a strong foundation for the child to grow and develop positive personality traits and behaviors.
