Influences on Adult Development (Chapter 13)Personality traits can be a stable set of influence on an adult’s development. An adult must adopt too many changes. Some changes are age graded (physical aspects for example); some are history-graded changes (Broderick, 2015). There are also non-normative changes (acts of fate for example) (Broderick, 2015). Development during middle adulthood can be very complex due to certain life events; they can determine the way that adults will continue to develop. Cognitive changes in adulthoodAge graded changes in cognitive functioning are experienced throughout adulthood. As people age some physical abilities decline, but many cognitive abilities actually show improvement. Categorizing cognitive skills in regards to how heavily a person depends on to kinds of underlying intellectual resources (Broderick, 2015). These are fluid intelligence, also called mechanics, and crystallized intelligence, or pragmatics.
