HW: 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 11.1NOTES10.5:People who agree with a political party's ideas show their allegiance by joining a party line at thepolls; they can also easily switch their party if they change their minds.A partisanidentification is someone’s long-term attachment to a certain party.People who don’t havea partisan affiliation when they register to vote lose the chance to participate in primary electioncampaigns in multiple states. Americans don’t formally have to join an organization, a lot oftimes people just self identify as their specific party that they favour or declare themselvesindependent and not favour any party. Since the 1960’s more people have started to identifythemselves as independent rather than with a certain party. Since less people trust the parties, that means that they have less trust in the 2 party system; some people even trust productbrands; nike/adidas/etc, rather than the parties themselves. Basically something bigthat caused the power structure between the 2 parties to change is called a realignment. They can be caused by an election where the minority wins and becomes a part of the majorityparty, then becomes powerful for a long period of time. This happens every 3-4 decades.Partisan dealignment is when people lose their loyalty to a party and make theirdecisions on who to vote for based on the candidates' compententness. The fact thatpeople choose to identify as independent rather than being a partisan shows how an alignment
