Mike Rosenbloom ENG 140 Professor Blackwell 11-20-07 How is the Crying of Lot 49 a Quest Story? When we think of the words quest story, we usually think of something or someone who has embarked on a tremendous journey, looking to return home or looking to find some lost treasure. However, in Thomas Pynchon’s novel The Crying of Lot 49 , we find a quest story with an unusual main character and journey. A young woman, by the name of Oedipa Maas, is just looking for answers about her ex-boyfriends life, and instead embarks on a wild adventure that eventually leads to something she didn’t expect.
