Mike Rosenbloom ENG 140 Professor Blackwell 12-10-07 The Playwright’s Guide to Saving the World For one of my out of class events, I went to the short play The Playwright’s Guide to Saving the World, written by a student Eric Richardson. I found this play to be awfully entertaining and fun to watch. It was about two guys (once again I can’t remember the names I’m sorry) who were complete opposites. One guy was a hugely famous playwright, who had written over 20 Broadway plays. The other guy was not known whatsoever, and had written a few smaller plays. A group had brought them together to write a play that “save the world”. The famous guy was convinced that he was all that was perfect. He was famous and wealthy and therefore in his eyes, he was amazing and nobody was near his level. He did not want to work with the other guy because his talent was so much better, and that’s where the story came from. They couldn’t work together and kept fighting over what should be in the play. Unformatted text preview: smaller writer tells the other guy that he didnt like a part that he wrote, and in turn, the bigger writer murdered him. The acting in this play was ridiculously impressive. The guy who played the famous writer gave himself an accent which he performed flawlessly. Im not 100% sure what the accent was, maybe English with something else? But it was amazing nonetheless and he stayed in the character the entire time. They also both had their lines memorized without a problem. I really didnt understand the point of this play. I think maybe it was to say that greed and wealth was only so much, but it doesnt matter if you are an asshole and completely alone. The bigger writer might have been rich and famous, but he was bitter and hated the world. The smaller guy brought it up to him, which in turn got the bigger guy nervous and thinking. The concept behind the play I thought was pretty creative....
