The answer constitutes the norms of citizenship Traditional: duty-based citizenship Engaged: Recent Public opinion survey asked Americans: “To be a good citizen it is important too…” -Vote -Be socially active -Obey the Law -Never Evade Taxes -Understand others -Keep govt. watch -Serve in Military -Buycott -Support worse off in World -Support worse off in USA Engaged Vs. Traditional Vote – Traditional Socially Active – Engaged Obey Law – Traditional Never evade taxes – Traditional Govt. watch – Engaged Understand others – Engaged Age effect on Duty Norm -Pre WWII is highest -Gen Y is lowest (1980’s-90’s)
