Mike Rosenbloom AUCW 180 Study Questions 7-12 The Odyssey 1. Fall of Troy- After 10 years of fighting, Odysseus and his men leave for Ithaca. Ismarus- raids lead to the eventual surprise attacks against Odysseus’s men Lotus Eaters- after leaving Ismarus, Odysseus is blown way off course and ten days later, they arrive at a place where people are addicted to Lotus. The Cyclops- they stop at a mysterious land, and while expecting to be graciously welcomed, they are instead captured by the Cyclops. While trying to escape, they blind the Cyclops and in turn, anger his father, Poseidon. Aeolus- Odysseus meets the god of the winds, Aeolus, who helps him out by giving him a bag of wind. He says to open it when he reaches Ithaca and warns him not to open it before then. However, his crew gets anxious and while in sight of Ithaca, they open the bag sending a huge blast of wind into the air and blowing the crew way off course. Laestrygones- they land on an island full of cannibal giants who destroy most of the remaining ships Aeaea- they land on an island where the goddess Crice turns them all into animals
