Kurtis Reece Comm 150 4/1/08 Media Reflection Paper The media can be a very powerful tool in shaping our society. The media tells us everything we know about the world around us. We watch the news and read papers and magazines to learn about both local and international current events. This isn’t the extent of media’s impact on society thought. It has a much more subtle, but still far reaching and deeply rooted impact. Other media such as advertisements, television shows and movies affect us in the way that they mold our perceptions of individuals and society. The portrayal of men in these types of media is exemplary of this phenomenon. Advertisers use images of the idealized male body to sell products in hopes that people will buy the product with the understanding that the product will help them attain the ideal look. Through content analysis one can see that these types of media can have a very negative affect on society by encouraging men to attain these lofty goals in unhealthy ways.
