1 Scriptures Professor Eppley Exam 1- September 18, 2007 (Part 1) Within the bible there are a number of covenants made between the Lord and the people of his creation. However, within Genesis, there are three predominant covenants that really stand out amongst the others that follow. Before we indulge ourselves with the various examples of these covenants, let us get a better understanding of the term covenant. Within the Hebrew bible, it means an agreement or pact with people. The first covenant that arises within Genesis is that of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with God. God created Adam from the dust upon the earth and Eve as a companion from one of his ribs. His only demands of them were that they could eat from any of the fruits within the garden but to not eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because if they did they would die. Then a snake (the devil disguised) came along and convinced them to go ahead and eat of the fruit. Thus, the covenant between them was broken due to their sin and they were burdened with the fruits of labor and pain from then on. This covenant displays the effects of sinning and going against gods will, and it sets a great example for people to see what can come of it. The second covenant between God and the people was with a man named Noah.
