Chapter 4  Physical Aging Student Objectives Read 1/22/2008 Be responsible for the information below ( Warning )- Discussion 1/24/2008 1.  Define life span and explain how it is different from life expectancy. 2.  Describe Strehler’s three criteria for differentiating senescence (aging) from the other biological processes.  Give examples of each of them. 3.  Discuss the limitations of the maturation—maturity—ageing model pf physical aging as it appears to  humans. 4.  Explain how changes in genetic functioning may be related to physical aging. 5.  Explain the radical theory of aging. 6.  Discuss age changes in the immune system and how these changes relate to physical aging. 7.  Endocrine and nervous systems are major contributors to homeostasis.  Describe how these systems change  with age and the physical effects such changes have. 8.  Explain how aging affects the availability of physical energy and what practical results this may have.
