Kristin Berry Literature Humanities- Flora Armetta September 17, 2007 Class Notes for Monday, September 17, 2007 Iliad: Books 19-24 Does Achilles grow up? yes no He makes amends with Agamemnon He treats Priam with respect Acceptance of mortality He is not only thinking of himself He fights for glory not revenge He is simply obeying Zeus He was not immature to begin with He makes the same decision in the end  as in the beginning- (giving up Briseis  and then Hektor’s body) What codes or values change? As the story progresses more feelings and emotions come into play (what about Hektor  and Andromache? Achilles weeping in the beginning?) The rules are broken but nothing changes Andromache is captured while Astyanax is killed later on Defiling the body- only for barbarians The Games - just really weird Gives the warriors something to do while Troy mourns- gives everyone a break
