Matt Niemiec SPIFO - GLUTTONY To be honest, this chapter on gluttony does not seem like a deadly sin. I believe the author of Steering through Chaos , Os Guinness, is correct in saying that it has the lightest spiritual penalties. However, the physical penalties of gluttony are probably the worst, when compared to the seven other sins. My response to the chapter as a whole was reserved at first. I thought, why devote so much time and space to such a small, and seemingly insignificant sin, at least when compared to other sins like pride, greed, anger, etc… Even Thomas Aquinas agrees in the fact that gluttony is the least serious deadly sin, and many others make light of the sin quite often. However, as I continued to read, as I have many times before, I learned new information about the sin that should not be taken lightly. The first and most important thing is that all sin is still sin. No matter how little we think of it or play it off to be okay, if we eat too soon, too much, too expensively, too eagerly, or with too much fuss, we are sinning. This one sin is
